BOMBSHELL: Palace issues update on King Charles after Prince William takes lead role

King Charles has issued a fresh royal update following his latest public appearance, as Prince William prepares to step forward on his father’s behalf for a major international duty.

The Royal Family’s official social media account shared new details on September 7 about the King and Queen’s weekend appearance at the Braemar Gathering in Aberdeenshire.

Charles and Queen Camilla attended the traditional event at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park on Saturday.

“Over the weekend, The King and Queen attended the Braemar Gathering at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Aberdeenshire,” the Palace said.

The statement also highlighted the long-running traditions associated with the gathering.

“Held on the first Saturday of September every year, the Gathering features events including tug-of-war, caber toss, hammer throw, Highland dancing and a parade of pipe bands.”

The update came shortly after it was confirmed that Prince William will represent his father and the wider Royal Family at the funeral of King Harald V of Norway on Wednesday.

William to Represent King Charles

Royal correspondent Rebecca English shared confirmation of William’s role on X.

“The Prince of Wales will represent His Majesty at the funeral of King Harald V of Norway on Wednesday,” she wrote.

The decision follows established royal protocol.

“It is usual precedent for the sovereign not to attend funerals of other Heads of State,” English explained.

That means William will attend in an official capacity on behalf of King Charles.

The Princess Royal will also be present, but for a more personal reason.

English added: “The Princess Royal will additionally attend in a private and personal capacity as godmother to King Haakon VIII.”

The arrangement gives William another high-profile responsibility as heir to the throne, while Charles continues with his own public programme.

King and Queen Continue Royal Schedule

The Palace’s decision to highlight Charles and Camilla’s attendance at Braemar also serves as a reminder that the King remains active in public life.

The annual gathering is one of Scotland’s best-known Highland events and regularly attracts royal attendance.

This year’s programme included traditional competitions and performances, ranging from Highland dancing and pipe bands to caber tossing and hammer throwing.
