BREAKING NEWS: P0lice Reveal Major Noah Update After Fresh Speculation Surrounding Disappearance
Police issued a major clarification amid online speculation surrounding the disappearance of three-year-old Noah Woods, stressing at the time that there was nothing to suggest anything sinister had happened.
Suffolk Police Superintendent Tom Pearse addressed growing speculation on Wednesday, September 16, as a huge search continued across Brantham for the missing youngster.
Noah had disappeared the previous afternoon after becoming separated from a relative during a visit to a playground in Merriam Close.
Police said the case remained a missing-person investigation at that stage.
“This is being treated as a missing person investigation at this stage and there is nothing to indicate anything sinister or any element of criminality has taken place although we keep an open mind as to the circumstances,” Superintendent Pearse said.
The statement came as hundreds of members of the public joined officers and specialist teams searching for the toddler.
Police Release New CCTV Images
As part of the operation, Suffolk Police released new CCTV footage and still images showing Noah at the Merriam Close play area at approximately 2.37pm on Tuesday, shortly before he vanished.
Officers believed Noah may have run down an alleyway beside the playground towards a nearby new-build housing estate.
The surrounding area presented considerable challenges for search teams, with woodland, open water, the River Stour and a railway all nearby.
Noah was described as white with curly ginger hair.
At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white T-shirt featuring the children’s television character Bluey, shorts and black Vans trainers with a white stripe.
His family and police also explained that Noah was non-verbal and partially deaf, meaning he was unlikely to respond if people called his name.
That information became especially important as volunteers spread across the surrounding area looking for him.
Father Makes Emotional Plea
Noah’s father, Rhys, issued an emotional appeal on social media as the search moved into another day.
He asked people helping with the operation not to give up and encouraged volunteers to widen their search where possible.
“I cannot go another night knowing he’s out there alone, please don’t give up on him guys,” he wrote.
“He is out there somewhere and I appreciate every single one of you.”
The appeal came as enormous numbers of people responded to requests for help.
Police expressed their gratitude for the public support but urged volunteers to work through the official co-ordination centre rather than searching independently.
Superintendent Pearse said doing so would allow officers to organise the operation systematically and ensure everyone taking part was accounted for.
“It has now been around 24 hours since Noah was reported as missing to us and we are doing everything we can to find him,” he said at the time.
“We are extremely grateful for the support shown by the public.”
Warning Over Water, Railways and Drones
Police also issued important instructions to those joining the search.
Members of the public were specifically asked to stay away from railway lines and open water because those areas required specialist equipment and trained search personnel.
Personal drones were also discouraged because they could interfere with professional search equipment being used by emergency teams.
Superintendent Pearse warned that officers might sometimes need to close locations or ask volunteers to move away.
“Please do not be offended if this happens; it is necessary to allow us to carry out our inquiries and search activity as effectively as possible,” he explained.
HM Coastguard Search and Rescue personnel were among the specialist teams involved in the operation.
The clarification concerning possible criminality was issued while the search was still active.
Police subsequently announced later on Wednesday that the body of a child had been recovered from Decoy Pond in Brantham. Formal identification had initially not taken place, but Noah’s family were informed, and police said the discovery was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
The live update was later amended to report that Noah’s body had sadly been found following a search involving specialist teams and more than 1,000 volunteers.
Police asked that Noah’s family be given time, space and privacy following the devastating development.
