The Voice UK delivered one of its most emotional moments of the series when a 24-year-old singer left Kelly Rowland in tears after revealing the deeply personal reason behind his audition song.
Aaren appeared as the final auditionee on Saturday night’s episode, hoping to impress coaches Kelly, will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and the duo of Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.
Before taking to the stage, he opened up about his close relationship with his nan, Kim, who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“She means the world to me,” Aaren said, explaining that he had moved in with her so he could help care for and support her.
That bond became the emotional heart of his audition.
Aaren performed How Do I Say Goodbye, a song he later revealed had been chosen specifically because of what his family had been through.
His performance was enough to convince both Kelly and Sir Tom to turn their chairs.
But the most powerful moment came after the singing had stopped.
Aaren Brings His Nan on Stage
Following his audition, Aaren revealed that both his mother and nan were overcome with emotion.
“My mum and nan are both crying,” he told the coaches.
He then invited Kim onto the stage and explained just how much she had meant to him during a frightening period for their family.
“Nan is currently in remission and there was a period where we nearly lost her as a family, and she’s been my rock,” Aaren said.
Kim responded simply: “You look after me.”
The exchange immediately changed the atmosphere in the studio.
Aaren then asked his nan for help deciding whether to join Kelly or Sir Tom’s team.
Kim looked toward Kelly and joked: “She’s beautiful.”
Turning to Sir Tom, she added: “And he’s handsome.”
But she ultimately left the decision with her grandson, telling him: “It’s down to you.”
Aaren chose Kelly.
Kelly Rowland Breaks Down
After Aaren made his decision, Kelly spoke directly to Kim.
“It’s such a pleasure to meet you, and a blessing to meet a miracle,” she said.
Aaren immediately replied: “She’s my miracle, she really is.”
The response proved too much for Kelly, who was visibly moved and began crying.
Viewers watching at home were equally emotional.
One wrote on social media: “#TheVoiceUK got me in tears over here.”
Another added: “Oh stop it, I can’t stop sobbing.”
A third simply said: “Omg I am in bits.”
The moment quickly stood out as one of the most heartfelt auditions of the episode, not only because of Aaren’s performance but because of the family story behind it.
Kelly Embraces Her New Role
Aaren’s decision also gave Kelly another memorable moment in her first run as a coach on the UK version of the show.
Ahead of the series, the Destiny’s Child star had spoken enthusiastically about joining the panel.
“I am excited to join The Voice UK as a coach, and am looking forward to working with the excellent and passionate coaches the show is known for,” she said.
“I can’t wait to hear all the new talent and to go to battle for my team. Let’s go!”
Kelly also said she has long felt a close connection with British audiences.
“It feels like family… I feel like I’m ‘Brit-ish!’” she said.
“The UK has adopted me and understands me to the point I’ve been on TV for over a decade. Every year I’m so honoured to be welcomed and understood… I love it.”
Aaren’s audition added another emotional chapter to a series that has already delivered several unusual moments, including the show’s first contestant to be brought back after initially receiving no chair turns.
But for many viewers, it was the sight of Aaren standing beside his nan and calling her “my miracle” that became the night’s unforgettable moment.
