Former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard was checked by paramedics after collapsing on the set of Irish soap Fair City while undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
The 69-year-old actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald in the ITV soap, said she unexpectedly lost consciousness while preparing to film a scene.
An ambulance was called and Beverley was examined on set before being allowed to return home, where she has been told to rest.
She is also currently awaiting the results of biopsies taken from her stomach and is due to return to hospital for further checks.
Beverley ‘Lost’ Around 10 Minutes
Beverley explained the frightening incident in a social media update, revealing that the day had initially been going well.
“I’ve been at work this week, filming the most amazing scenes,” she said, praising the scripts and her Fair City colleagues.
But things suddenly changed while she was getting ready to rehearse with the actress playing her daughter.
“I’ve no idea what happened to me,” Beverley admitted.
She said they were preparing to run through their lines when she suddenly “lost consciousness for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes”.
The actress described the experience as “very odd”.
Because of on-set protocol, medical help was immediately called.
“An ambulance came,” she explained, adding that she “desperately didn’t want to go to hospital”.
Blood Pressure Was ‘Through the Roof’
Beverley said she recovered and began feeling normal again, but remains unsure what caused the episode.
“I was boiling hot,” she revealed.
“I seemed to lose 10 minutes but I don’t know why.”
Paramedics checked her over and were satisfied she could return home as long as she rested.
However, Beverley said one concerning reading stood out.
“The only thing that did happen was my blood pressure was through the roof,” she explained.
She also said she has not felt completely right since undergoing radiotherapy.
Despite that, she told followers that once she arrived home she felt “perfectly normal”, leaving her almost feeling guilty about being away from work.
Actress Awaiting More Test Results
Beverley is currently waiting for further answers from doctors.
She revealed that she is due back at hospital next week and is also awaiting results from other tests and biopsies taken from her stomach.
“But aside from that, I don’t know what’s going on,” she said.
The actress asked followers who may have experienced something similar to share their experiences, adding that even her dogs appeared to sense that something was wrong and would not leave her side.
Doctors have reportedly advised Beverley to slow down and rest, warning her that she may be “overdoing it” while dealing with breast cancer treatment.
‘I’m Doing Well’
Beverley confirmed that she still does not have a full picture of what lies ahead medically.
“I don’t know the actual prognosis yet,” she said.
She is due to see her oncologist again in two weeks, when she hopes to receive more information.
“So I’ll know more then,” Beverley added, before offering a reassuring update: “But I’m doing well.”
The actress had been diagnosed with breast cancer before beginning work on Fair City.
Her collapse has now forced her to step away temporarily and rest while she waits for doctors to determine what may have caused the sudden loss of consciousness.
