Prince Harry’s decision not to publicly respond to Earl Spencer’s controversial new memoir has sparked fresh speculation about tensions inside the Royal Family, with one commentator describing the Duke’s silence as an “act of war”.
The claims come following the publication of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, in which Charles Spencer makes a series of allegations concerning the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death and members of the monarchy.
Royal commentator Mark Dolan claimed Prince William has been left “absolutely furious” by the book and is firmly supporting King Charles amid the renewed controversy.
Harry, meanwhile, has not publicly commented on his uncle’s allegations.
That silence has now become a talking point in its own right — although there is no evidence that Harry’s decision not to speak publicly means he agrees with Spencer’s account.
Harry’s Silence Branded an ‘Act of War’
Speaking on the Daily Expresso podcast, Dolan argued that Harry’s failure to publicly challenge the memoir sends a damaging message to his father and brother.
“Harry, on the other hand, deafening in his silence,” Dolan said.
He then made the striking claim: “Harry’s silence in regard to this book is an act of war.”
Dolan went further by suggesting Harry’s lack of response could be interpreted as support for his uncle.
“The book contains these allegations, and Harry says nothing,” he said.
“You can only interpret, therefore, that he supports the content of the book.”
That interpretation is Dolan’s own assessment. Harry has not publicly endorsed Spencer’s claims, and remaining silent does not by itself establish that he agrees with them.
William Reportedly ‘Absolutely Furious’
Dolan also claimed that William has reacted very differently.
According to what he described as royal sources, the Prince of Wales is deeply unhappy about the book and has sided firmly with Charles.
“So my royal sources tell me that William is absolutely furious about the book, that he doesn’t have a good relationship with his uncle, and he’s firmly on his father’s side,” Dolan said.
Those claims concern private family relationships and have not been publicly confirmed by William.
The report nevertheless suggests the memoir may have widened existing tensions between Spencer and senior members of the Royal Family.

Dolan argued that this makes Harry’s silence especially significant.
According to him, failing to publicly reject Spencer’s claims could make reconciliation more difficult.
Again, however, that remains the commentator’s interpretation rather than a confirmed position from either Harry or the King.

Harry has not publicly confirmed that he supports his uncle’s version of events.
He has also not issued a statement rejecting the allegations.
That leaves his position unclear.
While Dolan characterised the silence as a deliberate signal, there could be numerous reasons for Harry choosing not to enter the dispute publicly, and the source provides no direct evidence explaining his decision.
Similarly, reports describing William as “furious” rely on unnamed sources rather than a statement from the Prince of Wales himself.
For now, Earl Spencer’s memoir has reopened deeply sensitive questions surrounding Diana’s death and the relationships between members of her family.
