NCIS veteran Michael Weatherly has spoken candidly about the “wonderful” chemistry he shares with co-star Cote de Pablo.

NCIS enthusiasts have been demanding an NCIS spin-off centred around former agents Tony DiNozzo (portrayed by Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) for years, and earlier this month, their desire was finally fulfilled.

Five years following their off-screen reunion in Paris, Paramount+’s NCIS Tony and Ziva discovers the duo no longer romantically involved but jointly raising their daughter Tali (Isla Gie).

Naturally, complications arise in their flirtatious yet harmonious relationship when Tony’s security firm faces attack, forcing them to flee.

As NCIS Tony and Ziva unfolds weekly, Screen Time discussed with Weatherly his experience collaborating with De Pablo once more and what renders their partnership so extraordinary.

“I’m a fan of all the work everyone did on the show”, Weatherly commenced.

“I had been acting for over a decade when I started the show [NCIS] and so I knew the difference from something that felt good or felt bad and something that was resonating with an audience.

“It’s true with Cote [de Pablo] that you could feel we had a really fun dynamic and when that translates to an audience and become enamored with a couple – ‘shipping’ the couple – then you are in for a really wonderful, lucky ride.”

The inaugural series of NCIS Tony and Ziva continues broadcasting on Paramount+ weekly, though fans are already contemplating its future prospects.

Nevertheless, there remains no certainty that NCIS Tony and Ziva will secure a second series.

When questioned about the programme’s future, de Pablo revealed to TV Insider: “We’re just grateful that we got a chance to do it, and the rest is the rest. If we got a chance to do it again, we’d be thrilled.”

Meanwhile, showrunner John McNamara stated: “I try never to count my chickens before they’re hatched.

“I’m just focused on finishing this season and trying to make it as good as possible.

“And honestly, it is going to be entirely up to the fans and the subscribers to Paramount+ and ultimately to Paramount and CBS. It’s their property and it’s their money.”
