Dermot O’Leary has faced criticism for his conduct towards Sir Trevor McDonald at the National Television Awards.
Britain’s most prestigious TV celebration took place on Wednesday (10th September) with the NTAs making their return to screens. Broadcasting live from London’s O2 Arena, Joel Dommett hosted the ceremony.
From reality television to soap operas, a host of beloved programmes were vying for awards, including EastEnders, The Masked Singer and This Morning. Numerous celebrities were also present, such as Stacey Solomon, Davina McCall and Jeremy Clarkson, reports the Mirror.
For the Returning Drama category, former NTA hosts Dermot O’Leary and Sir Trevor McDonald were present to deliver the award. Programmes including Call the Midwife, Gangs Of London, Heartstopper, Slow Horses and Vera were all contenders.
Yet, following his announcement of the nominees, Sir Trevor paused before revealing the victor. Dermot seemed to roll his eyes and gestured for Sir Trevor to proceed by moving his hands rapidly, which he subsequently did.

Sir Trevor then announced the winner as Call the Midwife. Nevertheless, viewers watching from home couldn’t resist criticising Dermot for his “rude” conduct towards Sir Trevor on stage.
On X, one viewer posted: “Dermot kinda showed his true colours there looking p****d at Trevor McDonald for not opening an envelope.” Another commented: “Dermot is f*****g rude wtf was that.”
One viewer remarked: “Well that wasn’t awkward with Trevor Mcdonald.” Another commented: “Dermot is weird.” A third pondered: “Why is Dermot being a d****** towards Sir Trev?”.

took home the prize for best reality competition.
Clarkson’s Farm triumphed in the Factual Entertainment category, while EastEnders’ Steve McFadden won Best Serial Drama Performance and Gary Lineker clinched the award for Best Presenter.
