It would be remiss of me to start our round-up today with anything other than the news that shook the rafters of the Royal Family this week: Prince Harry and Meghan are coming back to the UK… for an extended period, at least.
The Sussexes may have made it their life’s mission over the last six years to tell the world about their dislike for Harry’s home country and to air their grievances about their time in the Royal Family, but they seem to have suddenly put that all behind them.

We may not know where they will live, which schools Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are about to be enrolled in, who will fund their security or why the Sussexes only chose to inform King Charles about their move this time last week, but we do know that this saga shows no sign of quietening down yet.
Surely His Majesty will be thrilled to have his “darling boy” closer to home – and to have the opportunity to build a relationship with Archie and Lili will be invaluable – but what of William?

We’ve watched him fight to make a real and long-lasting change in how the monarchy has always run and become a devoted father to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
He has achieved so much – so why is his reward the return of someone who has taken it upon himself to endlessly tell the world how aggrieved he feels against his family and the UK?
And Catherine, too. She watched her name dragged through the mud by her once-beloved brother-in-law, so the thought of the Sussexes moving back must be a less-than-enchanting prospect.
As for what will happen next, who can say? We’ve heard the extraordinary news that Meghan may have been offered a UK acting role, eight years on from her departure from US legal drama, Suits.
While we know there is no resurrection of the “half-in/half-out” deal the Sussexes once pined for, the next few weeks promise to be anything but boring.

In a new interview for cancer charity Maggie’s, Camilla revealed King Charles’s resolute response to his diagnosis: “Nothing stopped him.”
Recalling the difficult days before the news became public, Camilla admitted how challenging it was to visit cancer patients while keeping her husband’s health secret, saying she was “longing to let it out.” The experience shifted her role from a longtime charity patron to a caregiver directly supporting a loved one through treatment.
Despite his diagnosis, the King returned to public-facing duties in April 2024 with a busy, uninterrupted schedule, and Buckingham Palace continues to say he has responded exceptionally well to treatment.

Deep in the Scottish Highlands at Balmoral Castle, it seems there has been a slight disruption to the Royal Family’s summer holiday as reports this week suggested a meeting was held with key royals following the Sussexes’ shock announcement.
After he receives his official welcome to Balmoral on Tuesday, the King will be buoyed by the presence of his nearest and dearest while the dramatic U-turn of Megxit begins.
It’s been said that William and Catherine will maintain a resolute distance, refusing to let the noise and drama of the news derail their crucial work, and who can blame them?

Despite widespread reports that Sarah Ferguson jetted to Portugal following the birth of her fifth grandchild, the Daily Express understands she has not left her private residence in months. The former Duchess of York was last seen publicly in April at a luxury Austrian ski resort. While her exact location remains unconfirmed, sources have confirmed she did not travel to Lisbon to support Princess Eugenie and meet her newest granddaughter, Adelaide Brooksbank.
It remains to be seen exactly where Sarah has been since she disappeared after her connections to sex offender Epstein were extensively published by the US Department of Justice last year. We can only wait and see if she resurfaces one day.

And finally, some light relief. Imagine Queen Elizabeth II turning to you at dinner and saying, “Oh, for goodness’ sake, just go!” That’s exactly what happened to the Duchess of Edinburgh – and she revealed exactly why this week.
In a rare interview on BBC Radio 5 Live on Wednesday, Sophie recalled the moment she was nervously watching Team GB’s women’s hockey squad at the 2016 Olympics on TV at Balmoral Castle, while also trying to enjoy dinner with the Royal Family.
Sophie was visibly anxious with anticipation and was being told the score throughout dinner by a staff member who was an equally big hockey fan, causing the late monarch to finally say, “Oh, for goodness’ sake, just go”, leaving Sophie to rush to the library to watch the tense penalty shootout alongside Prince Philip.
She said of her late father-in-law, “I think he was watching my reaction more than he was watching the television because I was literally living and breathing every moment”. The tension even drew the late Queen into the room, though she could not stay to watch it end: “She was watching the penalties. She couldn’t cope with pressure. She had to take herself away again”.
