Richard Hammond breaks his silence on a Jeremy Clarkson reunion and his blunt four-word response after the £1m gesture says plenty.
Richard Hammond has opened the door to the possibility of reuniting with Jeremy Clarkson and James May, even if a full-blown motoring comeback does not appear to be on the cards just yet.
The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter was asked whether the famous trio could work together again following the end of their long-running motoring partnership.
His answer was cautious, but far from a firm no.
“It’s unlikely because we’re all flat out,” Hammond told The Sunday Times.
Then came the line that will give fans hope: “Why not, yes, of course.”
He added: “The future is the future. We don’t know. We’re not there yet.”
£1 Million Porsche Sparks Fresh Reunion Talk
Speculation intensified after Hammond recently delivered a Porsche worth around £1 million to Clarkson’s Farmer’s Dog pub in Oxfordshire so it could be tested.
The high-profile gesture immediately got fans talking about whether the pair could be laying the groundwork for more collaborations.
Hammond has also visited James May’s pub in Wiltshire, with footage of that encounter attracting around seven million views online.
Although those appearances are a long way from a new Grand Tour-style series, they show that the three men remain firmly in one another’s orbit.
Hammond continues to stay in touch with both Clarkson and May, whether through online videos, pub visits or swapping cars for testing.
For longtime fans, even these smaller reunions have been enough to keep speculation alive.
Hammond’s Life Has Changed Dramatically
A major comeback would not be simple, however.
Hammond’s life has changed considerably since The Grand Tour came to an end.
During 2024, he lost his father, saw his decades-long professional partnership with Clarkson and May come to a close, and experienced the breakdown of his 23-year marriage to Mindy.
Reflecting on that period, Hammond admitted it was an exceptionally difficult time.
“It wasn’t a brilliant time,” he said.
“But these are the things that come to us in our fifties, aren’t they?”
At one stage, he said he felt like withdrawing from public life altogether.
Since then, Hammond has focused on building a new chapter.
He spends time with his daughters, continues presenting his own motoring content and has expanded his classic car restoration business, The Smallest Cog.
Those commitments are part of the reason a major reunion with Clarkson and May looks difficult right now.
Clarkson Facing His Own Challenges
Clarkson has also had an eventful period away from The Grand Tour.
He recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, although it was detected early.
Clarkson later said a PSA test in April showed no signs of cancer and that he is now in remission.
He has also been dealing with trouble at Diddly Squat Farm after claiming that 11 sheep had been stolen.
Clarkson said the animals were worth more than £2,000 at market and suggested he was concerned that additional sheep could also be missing.
“The police have been very good, actually,” he said.
He later warned whoever was responsible: “It’s a farm. We’re armed. Just so they know.”

A New Grand Tour Era Begins
Clarkson recently attended the premiere of the latest version of The Grand Tour, which is continuing with a completely new presenting team.
Francis Bourgeois, Thomas Holland and James Englesman are stepping into the roles previously occupied by Clarkson, May and Hammond.
That formally marks the beginning of a new era for the Prime Video motoring brand.
But Hammond’s latest remarks suggest the original trio should not be written off entirely.
A full series may be unlikely, particularly with all three pursuing separate projects.
Still, the £1 million Porsche delivery, Hammond’s pub visit to May and his refusal to rule out future work together have left one thing clear.
The old chemistry is still there, and Hammond is not closing the door on getting the trio back together again.
