Former BBC weather presenter Jay Wynne, who regularly appeared on News at Ten, has d!ed at the age of 56 after a long-term illness, his brother Matthew Wynne confirmed. He didn’t reveal details of his illness but paid touching tribute to his sibling saying: “Jay had a gift for gentle clarity, making his forecasts for sometimes complex weather systems feel accessible and engaging. A keen skier, golfer and musician, Jay enjoyed travelling to pursue his sporting interests. We will miss his wisdom, generosity and dry sense of humour.”
Liz Howell, former Head of BBC Weather also paid tribute to the star. “I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Jay blazed a trail to bring greater diversity to weather forecasting and was a pleasure to work with. He had his own distinctive style of presenting the weather story which was very popular with audiences. My condolences to his family and friends,” she said.
Jay was inspired to launch his career in weather while studying Environmental Geography at the University of Aberdeen. He went on to complete a master’s degree in Applied Meteorology at the University of Reading.
Following this he joined BBC Weather in October 2000 and became a regular forecaster on BBC News at Ten. He also regularly appeared on BBC News 24, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World.
He had a true passion for meteorology which he demonstrated in a 2011 interview with Radio Times.”I have been known to drive around after night shifts, waiting for the sun to come up.
At night, it’s difficult to tell what kind of cloud there is on satellite pictures, so I like to see if I was right. More often than not, I am,” he said.

Jay was born in London to American parents and following his early education at Ardingly College, West Sussex took a roundabout route into his career.
Prior to realising where his heart lay he had studied Civil Engineering at university, but dropped out two years into the course after realising it wasn’t for him.
He then spent three years as a technician on a North Sea offshore oil rig before returning to university to study Environmental Geography. He travelled widely as part of his environmental research exploring South-East Asia and working as an English teacher in Fukuoka, Japan before studying for his masters degree.
In 1999 he joined the Met Office undertaking a 14-month training programme, including a a six-month secondment at RAF Northolt.

Marco Pierre White and Martha Stewart have also given some confusing cooking advice (Image: PA)
There are a number of celebrity chefs taking the food world by storm with their supposed expertise in cooking, and yet so many of them can have moments where they’re just as clueless as the ones they’re mentoring. Cooking fans gathered on Reddit to share moments where even the most notable of chefs have said something they disagree with or simply made a mess in the kitchen. From Gordon Ramsay to Martha Stewart, even the most experienced cooks have made some kitchen disasters that viewers roll their eyes at.
Gordon Ramsay has made a name for himself as one of the harshest chefs out there, and yet he showed himself up when he couldn’t cook a humble grilled cheese sandwich. The celebrity chef has proven himself to be quite the harsh critic, with some of the most memeable moments on screen with his fiery temper, dishing out a lot of controversial comments.
Although, the chef showed himself up when attempting to make one of America’s classic and simplest go-to meals. In his own YouTube video series, Ramsay Around the World, where he gives cooking demonstrations in a whole load of different locations, this one saw him appear in Tasmania.
The cheese he appears to use is dry and will struggle to melt. He cooks it over a fire instead of using low heat, so the cheese doesn’t have time to melt slowly before burning the bread. His finished result, while still looking tasty, offers no pull on the cheese whatsoever and hardly any melting. The bread itself was not only too thick for the cheese to melt, but also burnt within a few seconds due to the intensity of the heat.

A Reddit user recalls the times when Martha Stewart was wrong, and they willfully followed her advice for big family meals. The cook recommended adding sour cream to mashed potatoes, and when their mother-in-law followed the advice, everyone at the table was left with inedible food.
They shared: “I took a big spoonful, thinking it was going to be creamy. Do you know when you have taken a big swig of a carton of milk and then realise it’s expired and spit it out? Well, need I say more?”
Another time someone followed the cooking tip was by adding pepper to mashed potatoes with a lot of butter. They recalled, “What’s wrong with the mashed potatoes?’ Too bad the aunt didn’t hear. It was the first time the mashed potatoes weren’t completely gone by the end of dinner. Half the tray was still left.”
They weren’t the only notable chefs caught in the firing line of this Reddit thread; one user opened up about the confusing advice from Marco Pierre White. Their post read: “Marco Pierre White said on a show that the best way to cook bacon is in the microwave. I lost all respect for him in that instant.”

The famed British chef Jamie Oliver had no luck escaping the criticisms either when one user came for his advice for cooking egg fried rice. They wrote: “As an Asian person, I find Jamie Oliver’s egg fried rice tutorial absolutely horrid; so much is wrong with that recipe.”
Meanwhile, another cooking enthusiast made note of the time they disagreed with Julia Child’s cooking tips for vegetables. According to them, the celebrity chef advised only ever boiling vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and green beans, as opposed to steaming them.
The reasoning behind this advice was supposed to help retain the green colour of the veg. Although, this user claimed: “I steam broccoli all the time, and it comes out perfectly green and lovely.”
