HEARTBREAKING: Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway makes HEARTBREAKING ANNOUNCEMENT after ITV cuts ANNOUNCED
Presenter Kate Garraway has joked that she “will be fired” from Good Morning Britain amid chats about the ITV making cuts. On Tuesday’s show, the 58-year-old TV host was discussing upcoming changes from the broadcaster with her co-stars Ed Balls and guest Louie Spence.
Changes to daytime programming include timing changes to Lorraine and Loose Women, while GMB will also be impacted. Pretending to be outraged, Louis exclaimed: “How dare they? What’s going on? They’re cutting Lorraine, the Loose Women are being cut, what’s going on? This place is going to wrack and ruin.” Kate, who has worked on the ITV show since 2014, then shared her own thoughts on the matter, seemingly in jest. “I work in news and we are religiously, despite what people think, impartial, so you don’t endorse anything,” she explained, before adding: “When they fire me Louie, which is probably right now for talking too much, I’ll go and do one.” She then joked: “I’ll say strap in darling, because everyone’s being cut.”
It comes as ITV previously announced that it is making significant changes to its daytime schedule, including extending Good Morning Britain while reducing the runtime of Lorraine, with Loose Women also experiencing a seasonal reduction. These changes, part of a new daytime schedule starting in January 2026, aim to streamline production and potentially free up resources for other programming.
GMB will be extended by 30 minutes, running from 6am to 9.30am daily. Meanwhile, Lorraine will be cut down to 30 mins from one hour – airing from 9.30 am to 10 am for 30 weeks of the year.
When Lorraine is not on air, Good Morning Britain will extend to 10am. Loose Women will also run for just 30 weeks of the year.
Previously speaking about the “brutal” cuts, panellist Nadia Sawalha tearfully shared her worries. She said: “What people don’t realise at Loose Women is that we’re self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract.
“I could be let go tomorrow, I could be let go in five years, you don’t know because we’re not employees.”
She added: “What’s been brutal, absolutely brutal, over the last week, honestly I feel tearful about it, is that hundreds of people… are going to be made redundant out of the blue, these are all the people behind the scenes that support us in every way.”
