A presenter on A Place in the Sun sparked concern from viewers after the guests turned down all his properties. After an episode first aired in January 2025, but is repeating on Channel 4, presenter Ben Hillman admitted he’d failed to find the buyers their dream home in Spain, reports GlasgowLive.
Deb and Steve were planning on moving to Spain to live out their retirement. The couple, from Clacton-on-sea were planning on selling their UK home, leaving them with a budget of £150,000. However, things didn’t go to plan, and Ben wasn’t able to find them a property that ticked all their boxes, including being close to the beach, somewhere modern, with outside appeal and a home where they could host their children and grandchildren.

Admitting defeat, Ben confessed: “They were looking for the perfect forever home, and I’m afraid to say, I’ve failed to find it for them.”
“I hope I can steer them in the right direction,” he added.
He later told the buyers: “We were exhausted, we did a lot, we saw a lot.”

Deb set her mind on seeing other areas in Almeria, admitting: “We’ve only scratched the surface, we need to see more.”
Steve added: “We would make compromises for the right property.”
Deb went on: “I think, when you find the house you want, there might be something missing, but if you like it that much, you’re going to compromise because you want that house anyway.”
Ben told them: “So in truth, you didn’t find anything you really fell in love with.”

When the episode first aired, viewers shared their concern for Ben after he failed to find the buyers what they wanted.
“Oh, poor Ben. Has anyone checked on him? #aplaceinthesun,” one viewer said.
“I’m worried for Ben’s safety #aplaceinthesun,” another penned while a third added: “Ben’s seriously misreading the room …… she’s gonna go mental soon #aplaceinthesun.”
Someone else joked: “What if Ben’s sat in the middle seat on flight back #aplaceinthesun.”
