Charles said his entire family was joining Norway in remembering Harald, whom he described as both a “much-loved kinsman” and a trusted friend.
“As Norway mourns the loss of so towering a figure, my whole family join in remembering a much-loved kinsman and friend whose kindness, compassion and deep sense of duty echoed from across the sea and across the decades,” he said.
The tribute highlighted the personal sorrow felt within the British Royal Family while also recognising Harald’s wider importance to Norway.

He said the relationship between the two countries became even stronger during the Second World War.
“These special bonds were even further strengthened during the dreadful trials of the Second World War and help to bind our two countries together,” he added.
