ABBA have left fans reeling with the announcement that they will no longer sign items or photos sent to their office in Sweden. The legendary quartet has historically autographed images and items sent to their official address by fans. However, following the de@th of their long-time manager and friend Görel Hanser at the age of 76 in June this year, they are ceasing the practice. Görel was well known to fans and would frequently personally communicate with them regarding autographs and other requests. Callers to Benny’s studio were often surprised to see her answering the door herself. She was widely credited with ensuring they kept the fan interaction going.
Now the band has confirmed they are ending the practice. In the latest issue of their fan club magazine, they asked fans to refrain from sending items in for signing. It has been confirmed that occasional signed items may still be given away through official fan club competitions, but direct personal requests have officially come to an end.
The short note read: “A Message to Our Fans. Going forward, we will no longer be able to accommodate autograph requests sent to us.
“We therefore kindly ask that you refrain from sending items for signing. We are forever grateful for all the love, support and kindness you show us.” It was signed, “Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Frida,” indicating it is a group decision.
Fans were quick to comment on the news, with one Facebook account declaring: “Bad news! Understandable but still an end of an era.”
Another added: “I’m surprised they carried it on as long as they did after ABBA basically no longer existed ??”

A third acknowledged: “Of course it’s because of the loss of Görel, they are not young anymore either.”
A fourth agreed, commenting on Instagram: “Of course it’s because of Görel… she was the link between us fans and Abba.”
A fifth stated pragmatically: “That is fine, they do not owe us. And now Gorel is gone, it is time to stop.”
Meanwhile, a sixth shared: “Benny said in an interview they still get 300 emails a week….. and all the rest…It will take time for them to find someone who can connect us with them. It’s not easy. They are of a certain age and are surely wondering what to do now? It’s up to us to support them by respecting their choice.”
