BREAKING NEWS: Good Morning Britain stars issue message to viewers after Kate Garraway taken off air
The Celebrity Traitors star was struggling to speak during the episode of the ITV programme
On Monday morning (September 14), Kate was heard with an extremely hoarse voice. Despite how she sounded, the Celebrity Traitors star assured viewers of the ITV programme that she didn’t feel unwell.
She said near the beginning of the episode: “So sorry, I’m in absolutely no pain, I don’t feel unwell, but I talked way too much last week.
“So it’s a little bit like the news is being brought to you by Barry White this morning. I hope it doesn’t impede your understanding of the important stories we have.”
Later on in the episode, Kate was joined by Jonathan Swain, who was reporting live from Glasgow, during her news segment. Jonathan joked that he would bring her a cough sweet to help with her throat when he was back in the studio.
Joining in on the fun, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls questioned Kate on the hoarseness of her voice. Poking fun at Kate, Ed asked if it was ‘excessive’ Saturday night karaoke that hurt her voice.
Noting that she lost her voice over the weekend, Kate insisted: “I know it sounds really painful to listen to, I’m sorry. But, I’m not in pain.”
Seeking advice from her co-star Laura Tobin, Kate was informed of a plethora of remedies that could help. Told not to talk, Kate laughed and said: “Not in my nature, Laura!”
Eventually, Susanna revealed that Kate’s voice had seemingly gotten worse and she was sent home for the day. She said: “As you may have noticed earlier this morning, Kate Garraway had a very hoarse voice.
“She was belting it out at the National Television Awards last week, and her voice has not fully recovered. So, we have put her on vocal rest, and Faye Barker has valiantly come to the rescue and is here with the rest of this morning’s news.”
Addressing having to fill in for Kate, Faye commented: “Morning, amazing who you can find in a cupboard at ITN when needed!”
As mentioned by Susanna, Kate was at the National Television Awards on Tuesday (September 8). Good Morning Britain was up for Best Daytime Programme, with Pete Wicks and Olivia Attwood presenting the award.
In the end, This Morning won the prize over Good Morning Britain, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, and Loose Women and the BBC’s Scam Interceptors.
The daytime category was won by the ITV show, defeating network pals Good Morning Britain, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, and Loose Women and the BBC’s Scam Interceptors, during the glamourous ceremony on Tuesday (September 8) night.
Cat Deeley said during This Morning’s acceptance speech: “We are so lucky to get to do this show. We all love it. We absolutely love this show and it’s like having a family.”
