BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay was left saying “this is tragic” after hearing of one guest’s life-changing news.
Appearing on the red sofa on Monday morning (September 2), a schoolboy who went viral on social media joined Sally Nugent and Jon.
Cooper, 11, gained stardom for his seagull-mimicking skills, and showed them off on the morning show, dressed up as a seagull.
‘Seagull Boy’ became an internet sensation when he won a European championship in 2024, and plans to defend his title.
However, he faces a major issue as he’s growing up, as his voice may break, putting his skills at risk.

Commenting on his voice breaking, Cooper’s mum said: “He’s going up to secondary school now, he’s getting big, he’s growing up and his voice is changing.”
“Your voice will break, do you worry that will compromise your seagull work?” Jon asked, before hearing how Cooper’s voice had changed over time.
“Cooper, this is tragic! Doesn’t it make you sad?” he declared, while Sally said: “It’s part of growing up Jon, it’s all good!”
During the segment on BBC Breakfast, Cooper spoke about preparing for the competitions and drinking hot honey and lemon tea to help his throat.
“You have to practice a lot and watch seagull videos a lot or soundtracks, so you can learn different screeches, it actually works,” he went on.

Cooper also admitted that he can feel his throat “aching” sometimes after performing as a seagull, as he loses his high-pitched voice.
His mum added: “He’s definitely not got that intonation on the high-pitched seagull call that he did in 2024, he’s not quite got that shrill of the seagull.”
Commenting on his possible replacement, Cooper’s mum quipped that his younger sister may be able to takeover from him one day.
Cooper began his seagull-mimicking career after he was pecked by a bird when he was younger, and first went viral after a competition last year in which his younger sister Shelby also took part.

“I feel really excited and shocked,” he later told the BBC. “They [the other competitors] were really good too – including Shelby.”
His mum Lauren also told media at the time: “He takes it all in his stride. He’s so chilled about winning again. It has been a huge boost to his confidence.
“He’s very bright, but he is a bit shy – unlike Shelby, who wants to do everything.
“His confidence has soared. He is doing so many things he wouldn’t have done before, including getting a part as an ugly sister in his school play Cinderella.”
