The Chase: Bradley jokes with Sandra over ‘strange’ hobby

Viewers of The Chase were taken aback when they noticed one of the contestants on the latest edition of the ITV show on Tuesday, September 2, bore a striking resemblance to a huge celebrity. As Bradley Walsh welcomed a woman called Sandra to the show, fans were distracted by her similarity to funnywoman Dawn French, even questioning if they were actually watching the celebrity edition by mistake.

As Bradley asked her about her unusual hobby of making wooden spoons, they took to X to share their thoughts with one writing: “I’m surprised Brad didn’t ask if she ever gets mistaken for Dawn French #thechase.” A second added: “Maybe Jennifer Saunders could have helped Dawn out…. #TheChase,” referring to her famous partnership with the Ab Fab star. A third chimed in: “Dawn French’s bashful twin #TheChase.” A fourth queried: “Dawn French – is this a celebrity version?… #TheChase.” Meanwhile, another enquired: “Is Sandra Dawn French’s sister?? #TheChase.”

Sandra from Swansea joined Shajeev from Devon, Laura from Peebles and Sebastian from Northamptonshire in taking on The Beast Mark Labbet in the hopes of winning thousands of pounds.

Sadly, Sandra, who has been a teaching assistant for nearly 20 years and works as an engagement officer for healthcare services, ended her journey on the show after her cash builder, as she was caught by Mark.

Prior to her departure, she amused host Bradley by discussing her unusual hobby—making wooden spoons. “I learned how to do it in Sweden. I brought it back with me,” she explained.

Bradley couldn’t help but cheekily quip: “Trust me, we’ve been doing it(making wooden spoons) here for thousands of years. I think you’ve missed that boat as a side hustle. We’ve progressed on the forks now as well,” he joked.

When she admitted she couldn’t make forks as it was “too hard”, he asked her how many spoons she could make in a day.

Sandra confessed she only made one every two months. “That is churning them out,” Bradley laughed. “Six a year. It’s a cutlery set…We now know all we need to know about wooden spoons.”

Sandra revealed what she would do if she won big money. She wanted to visit the Galapagos Islands and see the giant tortoises.

Unfortunately, she never even made it to the final chase and walked away with nothing after being bested by The Beast.
