Thursday night’s episode of the ITV series follows Jake, 36, who now lives in Australia but was born and raised in the UK by his mother.
Jake had always known that he was born as a result of an affair between his mother, who worked as a nurse, and his married father, a doctor at the same hospital.
When Jake was a baby, his father occasionally visited him with his two other children, Katie and Tom, who were then aged five and three.
Two photographs showing his half-brother and half-sister holding him as a baby remain among Jake’s most treasured possessions.
But after the relationship between his parents ended, those visits stopped — and Jake never saw Katie or Tom again.
Jake Admits He Has Always Felt Something Was Missing
When Jake was 14, he moved to Australia with his mother.
Despite building a life there, he never stopped wondering what had happened to his siblings.
Explaining why he approached Long Lost Family, Jake admitted that the absence had stayed with him throughout his life.
“I feel like I always missed out,” he said.
“I missed out on something, that, you know, was really a connection that I craved really. I’ve always somewhat felt a little bit alone. And I just need that connection.”
Jake had already tried numerous ways to find his father, Katie and Tom, but his search repeatedly reached a dead end.
Even the Long Lost Family team struggled to locate his siblings using their usual methods.
Then came a discovery nobody expected.
While looking through the thousands of applications previously submitted to the programme, researchers found something remarkable.
Sister Had Already Applied to the Same Show
Months before Jake contacted Long Lost Family, a woman named Katie had also approached the programme.
She was living in Canada and searching for a birth father who shared the same surname as Jake’s father.
A DNA test subsequently confirmed the extraordinary coincidence: Katie was Jake’s half-sister.
Katie, who now works as a lawyer in Toronto, had no idea that Jake even existed.
Their brother Tom was also made aware of the situation and supported Katie making contact with Jake, although he chose not to take part in filming at this stage.
In an emotional preview from the episode, Davina sits down with Jake to reveal what the team has discovered.
The news quickly becomes overwhelming.
When Jake asks where his siblings had been living, Davina explains that Katie’s mother later met her stepfather and the family moved to Australia.
Jake is stunned.
“No way, you’re kidding! No way!” he says as he wipes away tears.
