SAD NEWS: BBC’s star shares devastating c@ncer update from hospital bed
Bob Harris admits he was ‘intimidated’ by TV studio in 2020
BBC presenter Bob Harris has shared a sad update on his c@ncer battle from a hospital bed. The star was forced to stop his hosting duties earlier in the year to focus on his health, but now he has admitted that the illness has “gotten more of a hold” on him, meaning that he has to undergo more intense treatment.
In a fresh update posted to his Instagram account on Monday afternoon, the 80-year-old shared a snap of him lying in a hospital bed. He emotionally captioned the post: “It has been a while since I last posted a health update and I want to let you know how I’m getting on, because there have been some changes with my c@ncer diagnosis. As regular followers will know, earlier this year I was forced to step back from @bbcradio2 to concentrate on treatment and rest. I have been missing my programmes so much, but this space has given me a most beautiful summer here at home, enjoying a most precious commodity… TIME.”

Sharing more about his current health status, Bob went on: “I feel very blessed to have been able to spend lovely moments with family and friends (some of which I’ve posted here on Instagram) in the glorious summer sunshine, but during this time my c@ncer has been getting more of a hold.
“I still feel well but I am now at the start of an intensive course of intravenous radiotherapy which we are confident will keep things at bay. I should know the outcome quite soon.
“It is possible to live successfully with stage four prostate c@ncer (as demonstrated by the incredible @chrishoy1 ) and Chris will know as well as anyone, it’s a very emotional roller coaster. But, as you know, I’m an extremely positive person, and I continue to be determined to continue to get the best out of everyday.
“My message to you, if you too are going through a difficult time, is this: NEVER GIVE IN. Fight with all your might to keep going.”
The presenter then opened up on the emotional toll it is taking on him and his family. “It isn’t always easy. I was in tears when I left the hospital with my son Miles on Friday,” he said.
Bob went on to share that he had been working on a new playlist and that he will be on stage in December as he “looks to the future”.
Bob announced in June that he would step back from presenting his programme after 56 years on air.
He shared that his prostate c@ncer had spread to his spine, stating at the time: “I am very fortunate to have spent my entire working life doing something I love so much.
“I am a massive BBC loyalist, and I’m grateful that I have always been given the freedom to build my programmes in my own way.”
Not long after, he wrote: “Having to stop work because of ill health is not what I would have chosen, but the massive positive is the quality time I am now able to spend with lovely friends.”
