Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter and the family’s nanny were found shot and killed inside a residential building outside Mexico City. Their tragic de@ths have shocked the country after the announcement by the state prosecutor on Wednesday, which identified the musician by his initials J.S.M.O.
Jonathan was the keyboardist of Mexican indie rock band Camilo Séptimo. Among the victims were his 35-year-old pregnant wife Ana Paola daughter, along with a 21-year-old Aleida Romero Victorio, the family’s nanny. Ms Paola was around four months pregnant when she died.The family’s pet dog had also been killed and tied up from its legs, the authorities said. The couple’s six-year-old child was discovered alive and unharmed, according to the prosecutor. The shooting took place at around 5.30pm and 7.40pm on Tuesday evening in the family’s penthouse. Lorena Victorio Cabrera, the aunt of the nanny, told CNN: “She was a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her.”
The rock band Camilo Séptimo penned a heartbreaking tribute to their bandmate and his family. Taking to Instagram, the statement read: “With deep sorrow we bid farewell to our dear brother Jonathan Samuel Melendez Ochoa. To his wife Ana Paula and his daughter Sofia. They will live forever in our hearts. We celebrate your music, your life and your light. Rest in peace.”

The heartbreaking post has received over 280,000 likes and thousands of comments from devastated fans.
One penned: “A brotherly hug, you are in our prayers. Our deepest sympathy.” Another echoed: “We are so sorry.”
A third remarked: “What a great sadness. Sending you a hug with much respect and affection.”
A fourth added: “I’m so sorry friends, no words, all our support and much strength to you all and the families.”

Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of public security, revealed on social media that two male suspects had been arrested.
Camilo Séptimo was formed by Meléndez on the keyboard, singer Manuel Mendoza and guitarist Erik Vázquez in 2013.
The band has released four studio albums, with the latest, Jardín de las almas, out in 2023.
Their influences include Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and Devendra Banhart.
