GB News ground to a halt as host Andrew Pierce issued a major breaking news update following Ann Widdecombe’s de@th last week. The TV presenter revealed that Liz Truss was forced to choke back tears as she gave an emotional tribute to the late Reform UK minister. On Thursday (July 16), the former Prime Minister broke down in tears on stage as she led a tribute to the MP during an inaugural Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in London.
Ms Truss honoured her long life of service, addressing a hall of attendees and introducing a slideshow of images of her former Conservative, Brexit Party and Reform UK careers. She began: “Before we start on this conference, I’d like to take time to pay our respects to the late Ann Widdecombe, who was brutally murdered in her home last week.
“I’ve known Ann for over 20 years. She was a deeply principled politician who stood for the very values we are fighting for at CPAC: free speech, patriotism and the family. She was courageous and fearless in standing up to the leftist drift we have seen in Britain.
“She was a kind and generous human being, and we are all so devastated that she has been taken from us. Now, let’s reflect on Ann’s remarkable life”, as she broke down in tears while the room held a solemn minute’s silence and applause.
After the speech concluded, Andrew Pierce and his co-host Olivia Utley discussed the impact of the politician’s brutal murder on British politics. She began: “It was interesting seeing Liz Truss choked up, that’s not something we often see. She’s quite a tough cookie, Liz Truss, but it just shows how much the de@th of Ann Widdecombe has affected so, so many people.”
He agreed: “It really has, but it’s also the savagery and the brutality of it, to attack a 78-year-old woman living alone in a remote part of the world. She loved that house. I knew her very well, Ann Widdecombe. She talked and talked and talked about her dream to have a house on Dartmoor so she could go walking.
“She was a great walker, and she had a lovely cat who was with her, and it was her dream home that was called Widdecombe’s rest. But the trouble is, a lot of people knew where it was.” Olivia echoed: “She had so much trust in her fellow man, she was so trusting and talked about how little security she had, and it’s so sad that that trusting nature was [abused].”

It comes after the family of Ann Widdecombe’s murder suspect have broken their silence one week after the former MP was found dead in her home in Devon. Counter terrorism police are probing whether the 28-year-old white British man being held over Ms Widdecombe’s killing was motivated by left-wing extremism and had been plotting violence against other high-profile figures.
The suspect’s uncle branded the killing a “terrible tragedy” in his first comments since the politician was found dead last Thursday (July 10), and claimed to have liked Ms Widdecombe because she was “forthright.” The relative, who has not been named for legal reasons, told The Sun his nephew had always been a “gentle giant” who showed “no red flags at all”.
“The only thing I can think of is he’s been left on his own after his dad’s de@th, and he’s spiralled. He’s always been a quiet, polite lad and very shy. Never in a million years did I think he would be linked to this. I’m just absolutely flabbergasted. I was in total shock when I found out about his arrest, but now I’m just numb.”
