A Sky News contributor has suggested that King Charles had another reason for reuniting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last week. On Friday (July 10), King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the Sussexes and their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, at Highgrove House, the King’s private country residence in Gloucestershire. Despite reservations on whether Harry would bring his wife and two children to the UK, King Charles was able to reunite with his grandchildren after more than four years.

The Palace described the meeting at the King’s home as a “private family occasion”, with no images or videos of the reunion released to the public. Sky News Australia contributor Louise Roberts believes King Charles conducted the meeting in this way to determine whether he can trust his youngest son.

“I see this whole meeting less a family reunion and more of a test as to whether Charles can actually trust his younger son again,” she told Sky News Digital Presenter Gabriella Power. “I don’t think they’ll ever trust Meghan again, but I think he’s very keen to build a relationship with Harry.”

She continued: “The choice of Highgrove is very significant. This is Charles’s private home, so it’s on complete lockdown. He controls every aspect of it. The fact that he was agreeable to a meeting and didn’t just dismiss Harry, Meghan and the children, he did want to see them, but it’s a lot different from it happening at Buckingham Palace.

“The lack of photographs is significant. Whether they were allowed to take pictures on the day themselves on their phones, we don’t know. Charles and Camilla know exactly where to stand at Highgrove so they don’t get photographed by any paps.”

While King Charles was no doubt delighted to be reunited with his grandchildren, Prince William, 44, was reportedly left “furious” by the meeting between his father and brother.

Speaking on Sky News Australia, TalkTV host Mark Dolan said: “It’s my understanding that William is furious about this. Why? Because it’s a reward for the treachery, the disloyalty, and the cruelty of Harry and Meghan.

“Charles wants to see his grandchildren. I understand that, but I think that Harry and Meghan had no right to be on a royal property, but they got their way as usual.”
