BREAKING NEWS: BBC Radio 2 presenter speaks out for the first time after brain tumour surgery.

Trevor Nelson Returns to BBC After Brain Tumor Surgery and Opens Up About His Recovery

Trevor Nelson is preparing to return to the BBC after taking several months away from broadcasting following surgery to remove a brain tumor.

The 62-year-old Radio 2 presenter confirmed on Friday, September 4, that he will be back behind the microphone from Monday, September 7, marking a major step in his recovery after what he described as a life-changing diagnosis.

Nelson stepped away from his radio commitments in June after learning he had a brain tumor, with DJ Spoony covering much of his schedule while he focused on treatment and rest.

Now, after confirming that the operation was successful, the veteran broadcaster says he is ready to gradually return to work.

“I will be slowly easing my way back on the airwaves from Monday on Radio 2 and next Sunday on 1Xtra,” he said. “I look forward to being with you all.”

Nelson will initially return to his regular Radio 2 slot from 2pm to 4pm before resuming his BBC Radio 1Xtra show on Sunday, September 13, at 11am.

Trevor Makes Surprise Radio Appearance

News of his comeback was revealed during Sara Cox’s Breakfast Show, where Nelson made an unexpected appearance and joked about his absence.

“Oh, hi Sara Cox… Have I missed anything?” he said.

“Now, where were we before I was rudely interrupted?”

Nelson then told listeners how much he had missed broadcasting.

“It’s been a minute, I know… but over the next few weeks I’m getting back to where I belong… in the Radio 2 studio, behind the microphone and spinning some records!”

He added: “It’s so good to be home.”

His return will be carefully phased rather than immediate.

Nelson is expected to work two days during his first week back, three days the following week and four days the week after that.

He is then scheduled to resume his full-time radio duties on Monday, September 28.

DJ Spoony and Clara Amfo will continue stepping in on the days Nelson is not working during that transition.

Diagnosis Left His ‘World Turned Upside Down’

Nelson only recently addressed the speculation surrounding his sudden absence.

Returning to social media last month, the father of two said he had received a huge number of messages from people asking what had happened.

“There’s been a lot of speculation as to what’s wrong with me,” he said. “My phone’s blown up 20 times over with people asking what’s wrong with me.”

He explained that he decided to share more because of the support he had received, although he did not want to go into every detail immediately.

“I was minding my own business, and then it was discovered I had a brain tumour,” Nelson said.

“As you can imagine, I was shocked. In fact, my world was turned upside down.”

The presenter said he knew he needed to step away from broadcasting while dealing with the diagnosis.

“I knew I had to stop work because I couldn’t be that guy on the radio knowing I had that going on,” he explained.

Following surgery, Nelson said he had been “recuperating and resting” at home while continuing with post-operative treatment.

‘I Feel Great Right Now’

Despite everything he has been through, Nelson has given fans an encouraging update about how he currently feels.

“I can only tell you the truth, and the truth is I feel great right now,” he said.

He has already returned to playing golf and working out at the gym, saying much of his everyday routine has begun to feel normal again.

Until now, the biggest things missing have been his radio shows and live gigs.

That changes from Monday.

After months focused on treatment and recovery, Nelson will finally return to the studio that has been such a major part of his career, beginning a gradual comeback before resuming his full broadcasting schedule later in September.
