Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s imminent return to the UK has sent shockwaves through the royal-watching world, but a brilliant move by Princess Catherine has completely turned the tables on the Sussexes.
Since Harry and Meghan left the UK in 2020, they have been nothing but trouble for the Firm, moving from one media firestorm to another. First came the allegations of racism in the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, then the couple’s unprecedented Netflix documentary, then Spare (ghost-written, obviously), in which Harry slammed Camilla and claimed Prince William attacked him.
All this, seemingly a vindictive campaign by the Sussexes, has led Brits to despair at the prospect of Harry and Meghan’s return, with a YouGov poll suggesting that 33% think they should not return and 21% think they should.
But, as ever, Princess Kate knew exactly how to handle the troublesome twosome.

Inside today’s papers are beaming photos of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, in the passenger seat of a car driven by her husband near the King’s Balmoral Estate yesterday, heading to church. “Keep calm and carry on”, as the late Queen might have said.
The move is a blinder played by the Waleses, with Princess Catherine taking the lead role. It’s clearly a move designed to remind the public and Harry and Meghan who the proper royals are.
It proves one thing that is sure to get under Harry and Meghan’s skin: The Waleses are infinitely more important than Prince William’s brother and sister-in-law.
They do not have to rely on Spotify and Netflix deals or a reported role in a Guy Ritchie show to stay even remotely relevant.
They know what their duty is and are proud to carry it out.
