The Duke of Sussex has a “better chance” without Meghan Markle as he begins his five-day trip to his home country, a PR expert has claimed. Prince Harry arrived in Britain on Monday amid a chaotic stand-off with Buckingham Palace regarding his accommodation plans.
King Charles’s son initially declined an invitation to stay at a royal residence on Saturday but then made a U-turn and requested to stay for just one night at Buckingham Palace, only to be told he had accepted the King’s offer too late. He was also told his presence could compromise his father’s constitutional position, with judgment due in the Duke’s High Court case against Associated Newspapers on the same day. While Harry was originally thought to be bringing his wife, Meghan Markle, to Britain, it was decided at the eleventh hour that the Duchess and their two children would not be joining him, at least in London, due to security concerns.

Now, a PR expert explains how the decision was the “smartest” one for the Sussex camp.
Nick Ede, a brand and culture expert, told the Express: “Meghan choosing not to accompany Prince Harry to the UK is probably the smartest move for both her personal brand and the Invictus Games.
“The focus should always be on the competitors, the veterans and the extraordinary stories of resilience that make Invictus such an important event.
“ Whenever Meghan attends, the conversation inevitably shifts towards what she’s wearing, body language, family tensions and the state of the Sussexes’ relationship with the Royal Family. Without her there, Harry has a better chance of putting the spotlight back where it belongs.”
Mr Ede adds that Meghan appears to contradict herself when trying to reposition herself as an entrepreneur while still clinging to her royal links.
He says: “Meghan has worked hard to establish herself outside the institution, yet she continues to use the Duchess of Sussex title, which remains one of the most valuable assets in her personal brand.
“It’s a balancing act because the title undoubtedly opens doors globally, but it also keeps her intrinsically linked to the Royal Family she has distanced herself from.”
The PR specialist advises the duchess to decide on and adopt a “clear long-term strategy” to “demonstrate confidence” in the strength of her own name.
Mr Ede concludes: “I don’t think Meghan’s absence damages her brand in the short term.
“If anything, it allows Harry to own the narrative around Invictus while allowing her to focus on her own projects.”
