GB News Pauses for Harry and Meghan Update as Expert Warns ‘Old Wounds’ Could Derail Royal Truce

GB News interrupted its live coverage with a fresh update on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after reports claimed the Duke remains angry with members of the Royal Family and is still expecting an apology.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman joined Camilla Tominey on her Sunday programme to discuss whether the Sussexes’ return to Britain could lead to reconciliation with King Charles and Prince William.

Harry and Meghan are reportedly settling in the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for an “extended period”, with the Cotswolds widely suggested as the location of their temporary home.

Their arrival initially raised hopes that Harry could use the opportunity to rebuild his strained relationships with his father and brother.

However, the Mail on Sunday has claimed the Duke remains “just as angry” as when he left Britain and is still “spitting blood” over his treatment by certain members of the Royal Family.

Those claims have not been confirmed publicly by Harry or Meghan.

“We thought we were going to hear sounds of contrition,” Hardman said during the GB News discussion. “Or possibly hear nothing at all. The couple would come back silently.”

Instead, the royal author said sources apparently close to the Sussexes were briefing that Harry remained upset about the same disputes that dominated the years following his royal exit.

“It’s now being briefed that Harry is still cross about all the things he was cross about before,” Hardman said. “And we’re told he is still expecting some kind of apology for the way the couple were treated.”

He suggested the “same old tunes” were being played from the family’s reported rented residence in the Cotswolds.

Royal apology ‘unlikely’ to happen

Tominey asked whether King Charles, Queen Camilla, William or Princess Kate had any reason to apologise to the Sussexes.

Hardman replied: “No, I don’t think any apology will be forthcoming.”

The biographer believes Harry and Meghan’s return indicates that they are seeking some form of “rapprochement” or bridge-building exercise with the Royal Family.

However, he suggested progress is more likely with Charles than with William, whose relationship with Harry is believed to remain particularly difficult.

“Clearly, by coming back, the couple are looking for some sort of rapprochement or bridge-building exercise, notably with the King,” Hardman said. “I think that’s less likely to happen with William for various reasons.”

Harry’s relationship with his relatives deteriorated after he and Meghan stepped away from senior royal duties and relocated to the United States in 2020.

The couple later discussed royal life in several high-profile interviews, while Harry made further allegations in his memoir, Spare.

The Duke has since spoken publicly about wanting reconciliation with his father. His return to Britain therefore prompted speculation that private meetings with Charles could become more frequent.

‘The couple have to move on’

Hardman warned that any attempt to repair relations could fail if Harry insists on revisiting grievances from the past.

“That’s not going to happen if Harry starts reopening old wounds,” he said.

Despite the latest claims, the commentator believes the Duke will understand that repeatedly discussing previous disputes could make reconciliation more difficult.

“I think he will be savvy enough to know if he wants to start having regular chats and meetings and see more of his father, the couple have to move on,” Hardman added.

“We can’t keep repicking at events from seven years ago.”

Harry and Meghan have not publicly explained the full terms of their extended stay or how much contact they expect to have with the Royal Family.

Questions also remain over their security arrangements and whether British taxpayers could eventually contribute towards the cost of protecting the family.

For now, reports of Harry’s alleged demand for an apology have complicated hopes that his return could mark an immediate fresh start. According to Hardman, rebuilding bridges will require the Sussexes and the Royal Family to stop returning to the conflicts that caused the divide.
