BGT interrupted for Prince William bombshell as Simon Cowell issues plea

Just minutes into the last semi-final, Britain’s Got Talent was interrupted as judge Simon Cowell issued a huge plea to Prince William. This came after the ITV competition show opened with a performance of Revolting Children from the Matilda Musical. After the hosts Ant and Dec introduced Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and KSI, Dec noted how Amanda was “nearly stranded” and almost didn’t make it to the live show after interviewing Prince William on the Isle of Scilly alongside her Heart Breakfast co-host, Jamie Theakston.
In the clip, the trio were concerned about the stormy weather, which threatened the Royal’s helicopter exit. After the Prince of Wales remarked: “You’re getting a bit worried, aren’t you, Jamie?” To which, the panellist chimed: “I’m supposed to do Britain’s Got Talent, but I’m thinking if you’re still here, we could just do it live.” Amanda added: “You could be like a fifth judge.” Prince William agreed: “Let’s do it,” as he joked: “I can do it better than Simon.” This surprised the long-time judge, who then pleaded for the Royal to make it happen.

As the crowd groaned at the brutal jab, Ant stated: “Someone’s after your job, Simon.” While Amanda added: “That’s going to be a bit awkward if he’s at the Royal Variety
Without hesitation, the 66-year-old shrugged: “Doesn’t matter.” When Amanda questioned: “Do you think he could be a good fifth judge? Simon responded: “Brilliant! Come on, let’s do it. Come on, please.”
The live audience then cheered in agreement, as Ant also addressed Prince William and said: “Your Highness, the chair is always here for you.”

In an effort to convince the monarch, Simon interjected: “We will make a special throne for you.”

Although many acts have auditioned as members of the Royal Family, this would be the first time a working member of the Royal Family could potentially sit on the judging panel.
They are usually involved right at the very end of the competition, when a winner is announced and eventually performs at the annual Royal Variety show, which Prince William and Catherine attended last year.
In addition to a spot at the variety show, the winner is also competing for a life-changing £250,000 cash prize.
