Sky News interrupted its live programme with a breaking update on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the couple reportedly moved Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to a different school just days into the new term.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been back in Britain for less than a month, with the past few weeks expected to focus largely on settling into their new home and helping their children adjust to life in the UK.
But only two days after Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, started at their first new school, the couple decided to move them elsewhere.
Presenting The Wrap, Anna Botting turned to royal correspondent Laura Bundock for the latest details.
“Two days in, a switch already. What are the couple saying, Laura?” she asked.
Laura explained that the children had now started at another school in the same area, with security concerns said to be behind the sudden decision.
Sussexes Say Decision Was Not About the School
Laura read a statement from Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson making clear that the original school itself was not the problem.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” the statement said.
The couple also thanked teachers and staff for the “love, care and effort” shown to their family.
“This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there,” the spokesperson added.
According to Laura, the main concern involved the practicalities of travelling between the Sussexes’ home and the school.
Heavy term-time traffic reportedly created problems for the family’s small private security team.
The distance involved also put pressure on the security operation, particularly because the vehicles were expected to stay together during the school run.
Laura said there had also been an incident involving the family’s convoy.
“We are led to believe” there was disruption that resulted in vehicles becoming separated when they were supposed to be travelling together, she explained.
Reports subsequently claimed the children could be left stationary in heavy traffic for extended periods, which security personnel considered a potential vulnerability.

Questions Raised Over Planning
The school change has also prompted questions about how quickly Harry and Meghan decided to move back to Britain.
Laura suggested the logistical problems “beg the question” of whether the family’s return had been arranged at relatively short notice.
Bodyguards reportedly inspected the school during the summer holidays before Archie and Lilibet began attending.
However, the school-run journey itself is said not to have been fully tested under normal term-time conditions.
That distinction became important once roads became much busier after schools reopened.
Former Northern Ireland First Minister Baroness Foster questioned why those scenarios had not been considered in advance.
She argued that if a family was moving internationally and choosing a school some distance from home, the transport and security arrangements should ideally have been tested beforehand.
Her greatest sympathy, she said, was for the children, who had already moved country before suddenly being told they would be attending another school.
Claims Security Row Could Become Part of Wider Case
Daily Mirror columnist Kevin Maguire also suggested the latest incident could become part of Harry and Meghan’s wider argument over security in Britain.
He claimed the Sussexes were pushing strongly for taxpayer-funded protection and said the school-run problems could be used as part of that case.
That interpretation was his own assessment rather than a confirmed statement of Harry and Meghan’s intentions.
The couple have repeatedly faced public debate over their security arrangements since stepping back from royal duties and moving overseas.
Their return to Britain has brought the issue back into focus, particularly now that Archie and Lilibet are attending school here.

For the Sussexes, the latest decision appears to have been made with safety and logistics in mind.
For Archie and Lilibet, however, it means another adjustment after leaving California, moving to Britain and starting at one school only to move again days later.
The couple’s team insists the school itself was not at fault.
But the sudden change has intensified questions over how Harry and Meghan plan to manage their family’s security as they settle back into life in the UK.
