BREAKING: King Charles and Prince William ‘in sync’ over major Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issue
King Charles and Prince William may take different personal approaches to Prince Harry, but a royal expert claims the monarch and his heir are firmly united over one major issue involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Harry and Meghan have been at the centre of renewed royal attention since returning to Britain with Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
The couple took a significant step towards rebuilding family ties earlier this summer when they brought their children to Highgrove House during a July visit.
They later announced an extended stay in the UK from August 26 while Archie and Lilibet attend school.
While Charles is reported to have resumed contact with his younger son, William’s relationship with Harry is said to remain deeply strained.
Royal author Russell Myers has now claimed that the Prince of Wales has drawn a very clear line over his own future relationship with the Sussexes.
William’s Position Said to Be ‘Clear’
Myers, author of William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era, said William does not intend to interfere with whatever personal relationship Charles chooses to have with Harry.
“William’s view is clear — any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him,” Myers told People.
However, he went on to claim William sees his own position very differently.
“Looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever,” Myers said.
That assessment remains the royal commentator’s account of William’s thinking rather than an official statement from Kensington Palace.
Even so, Myers argued that William and Charles are closely aligned when it comes to Harry and Meghan’s formal status.
“The King and William are completely united on the Sussexes not representing the Royal Family,” he said.
He added that there was “without a doubt” strong agreement between father and son on that point.
Sussexes Remain Outside Working Royal Fold
That position was reinforced earlier this month when King Charles issued an official communication to UK Government officials confirming Harry and Meghan’s status.
The letter stated that the Duke and Duchess remain “private citizens” and are not returning as full-time working members of the Royal Family.
It also noted that their His and Her Royal Highness styles remain in abeyance and are not used.
The move effectively reinforced the distinction between Harry and Meghan’s private family connections and any official role representing the monarchy.
Charles may be open to rebuilding a personal bond with Harry, but the official position appears far less flexible.
For William and Princess Kate, however, Harry and Meghan’s presence in Britain could still create difficult situations at private family events.
Royal historian Amanda Foreman has suggested that navigating those circumstances could prove “incredibly draining” for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
She argued that William and Kate may continue facing questions about whether the brothers could reconcile, regardless of what happens privately.
Harry Reportedly Blames William
Separate reports have claimed that Harry was deeply disappointed by Charles’s recent letter and suspects William played an important role in shaping the tougher stance.
A source quoted by Radar Online claimed Harry believes his brother’s influence can be seen throughout the decision.
“Harry believes William’s influence is all over this,” the source said.
The insider acknowledged that the final guidance came from the King but claimed Harry believes William strongly supported taking the hardest possible position.
That allegation has not been confirmed by William or Buckingham Palace.
According to the same source, Harry had hoped his return to Britain might allow for a more flexible relationship with the royal institution.
Instead, he is reportedly frustrated that the formal boundary between the Sussexes and working royal life remains firmly in place.
Personal Contact, but Firm Official Boundary
The situation highlights an important distinction within the Royal Family.
Charles may choose to rebuild his personal relationship with Harry as a father, while still maintaining a strict institutional boundary around the Sussexes’ role.
William, according to Myers, appears less interested in either a professional or personal relationship with his brother.
But when it comes to whether Harry and Meghan should formally represent the Royal Family again, the King and his heir are said to be entirely aligned.
For the Sussexes, that means returning to Britain may bring them physically closer to the family, but it has not reopened the door to their former position within the working monarchy.
And while speculation over reconciliation is likely to continue, the official line around their royal status appears much harder to shift.
