Sky News correspondent Barbara Serra issued a breaking news announcement. An Aberdeen University employee has been arrested and charged over social media comments about the de@th of former MP Ann Widdecombe.
The host began: “Let’s bring you some breaking news now. An employee of Aberdeen University has been arrested and charged over social media comments about Ann Widdecombe’s de@th.
“Heather Herbert was reported to the police over a post made online after Widdecombe’s de@th on Thursday. A police Scotland spokesperson said, ‘We received reports on Saturday July 11, 2026, relating to a post made online. Following further assessment, a 50-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Herbert was previously reported to police over an online post shared following Ms Widdecombe’s de@th, which was announced on Friday morning.
The post was reportedly published before it emerged Devon and Cornwall Police had launched a murder probe into the de@th of the former Tory minister. Police Scotland initially said no criminality had been established in relation to the post.
Ms Widdecombe, 78, a former Conservative minister turned Reform UK spokeswoman, was found dead at her home in Devon on Thursday, having sustained serious injuries.
A man, 28, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was originally arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday.
On Monday, he was re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
