SHOCK: Great British Bake Off Fans Left Baffled After Spotting Nigella Lawson’s Bizarre On-Screen Habit
Nigella Lawson has officially made her debut as a judge on The Great British Bake Off — but viewers were left distracted by an unexpected habit during her first episode.
The TV chef has replaced Prue Leith on the Channel 4 judging panel, joining Paul Hollywood as the latest group of bakers entered the famous tent.
After weeks of anticipation, fans finally got to see Nigella in action.
While she is well known for her distinctive and often playful way of talking about food, it was not her descriptions that became the main talking point.
Instead, viewers found themselves fascinated by the way she appeared to eat cake.
Viewers Spot ‘Strange’ Cake-Eating Habit
Nigella sampled a number of creations during her first episode as a judge.
She began with the contestants’ stout cakes during the Signature challenge before tasting 12 coffee and walnut cakes as part of the Technical.
She then moved on to the self-portrait Showstoppers.
Like Paul, Nigella used a fork to sample the cakes.
However, viewers watching at home noticed what they believed was an unusual eating technique, with several commenting that she appeared to struggle to get the fork into her mouth.
One person took to X and asked: “Why is Nigella finding it so hard to eat? I’ve never seen someone struggle to eat a piece of cake so much!”
Another replied: “It’s very strange lol.”
A third commented: “Watching Nigella eat cake really weirdly is . . . really weird.”
Another viewer questioned: “….she seems to have great difficulty in getting the fork close to her mouth?”
Some even speculated that Nigella could have been trying to avoid getting cake on her lipstick.
That was simply viewer speculation, however, and Nigella did not address the comments during the programme.

Despite the attention surrounding her cake-eating style, Nigella’s arrival on Bake Off was warmly received overall.
At the start of the episode, Paul appeared alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding as the programme marked Prue’s departure.
Nigella was then shown in the garden before Alison asked whether she wanted to join the judging panel.
Nigella made clear how excited she was about the opportunity.
“You know, it is the absolute dream. I am in!” she said.
Alison then introduced her to this year’s 12 contestants as “the legendary, the iconic Nigella Lawson”.
The moment marked the beginning of a new era for the programme following Prue’s exit.

While some viewers were baffled by Nigella’s eating technique, reaction to her judging debut itself was largely positive.
