Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell is back in the ballroom this autumn. Set to compete in season 24, the professional dancer has been documenting her return to work after giving birth to her son, Bowden, in March. Confirming on Instagram that she’s already in full-blown rehearsal mode, Dianne appears to be busier than ever.

Ahead of her return to the studios, however, Dianne didn’t know if she’d be taking part in this year’s competition. “We’re so lucky to be there every single year, and you’re never guaranteed that you’ll be back,” she told The Sun.

“Of course, you always hope, but they’re putting on a show, and sometimes they will have to change it up.”

Thankfully, the mum-of-one wasn’t overly concerned about being axed from Strictly. “You always think: ‘Am I going to be back or not?’ But because of how supportive they were to me when I was pregnant and talking about me coming back, I didn’t feel like they would do that,” she recalled. “They were very aware that being a working mum while still dancing was possible, and they wanted to accommodate that.”

Back in July, Dianne appeared on the Oxydise podcast, where she revealed her own fears that she wouldn’t be able to dance again.

Reflecting on the pain she experienced after undergoing an emergency C-section, the BBC star said: “You basically are bedridden, and also it’s your hormones going wild as well. So you’ve got that on top of pain, on top of having this newborn, and wanting to give it all your attention, but also you can’t even get out of bed.

“Even to sit up is like a real mission,” she continued. “There was one night I had to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, and I just burst into tears because the pain of just sitting up or having to manoeuvre myself out of bed was just unbearable.”

According to Dianne, the recovery process even left her fearful for her career. “I was like, ‘How am I going to recover, and will I ever be able to dance again?'” she mused.

“That was my initial thought. I was like, ‘This has absolutely torn through my muscles. I’m never going to be able to dance again. I’ve lost all mobility in my legs. I’ve lost my core strength.’ It was very intense.”

Revealing that after hitting the “two-week mark” in her recovery, she began to feel better, Dianne has since shared videos of herself dancing with her Strictly co-stars – and she’s even brought little Bowden along to watch. While this year’s pairings have yet to be revealed, fans can expect to see Dianne back in the Strictly ballroom when the launch show airs on Saturday, 19 September, on BBC One and iPlayer.
