Farmer Ruth Burgess from Cannon Hall Farm has spoken out following the announcement that her husband, Dave, has terminal c@ncer. Dave was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal c@ncer and is currently undergoing treatment, including daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Dave, Ruth, and their two sons, with the hope of “easing some of the pressures they are facing” and allowing them to focus on spending time together.
In a new Instagram video, Ruth thanked fans for their support through leaving comments and donations following Dave’s diagnosis. An emotional Ruth said: “It’s been very humbling. A huge, huge thank you. Thank you so much. It’s not been an easy time and we’ve got a bigger challenge going forward, but we’ll carry on.”
After thanking fans once again, the farmer added: “I wanted to give a big shout-out to Charlotte, Shaz and Lisa and all the rest of the Christie’s team.”
Ruth had to take a moment to compose herself as she fought back tears, telling Cannon Hall Farm followers: “Thank you, guys. It means a lot.”
Fans rushed to support Ruth in the comments, with one writing: “Sending so much love, light, and strength to you Ruth, and to all your family and friends for the journey ahead. They say ‘it takes a village’ to raise a child, but it is just as true for navigating life’s hardest seasons. We are all holding you close.”
Another shared: “Sending you Dave and all your family my deepest love and prayers and strength at this time x you are a truly amazing lady.”
A third echoed: “Sending lots of love and strength to you all. You’ve had a difficult year and I take my hat off to you all for carrying on and giving everyday your very best to all the animals.”

The family’s GoFundMe page reads: “If you follow Cannon Hall Farm, there is a good chance you will know Farmer Ruth.
“Whether you have met her on the farm, watched her caring for the animals online, or simply seen the warmth and dedication she brings to her work, you will know that Ruth is a very special part of the Cannon Hall Farm family.
“Recently, Ruth and her family received devastating news. Her husband, Dave, has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal c@ncer and is currently undergoing intensive treatment, including daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy.”
It continues: “It is incredibly difficult to know what to say at a time like this. Ruth, Dave and their two sons are facing an unimaginably difficult period, with so much uncertainty about what the future may hold.
“As supporters who have followed and supported Cannon Hall Farm, we wanted to do something to show Ruth and her family that there is a huge community of people thinking of them and standing behind them.
“We have therefore set up this fundraiser for anyone who knows Ruth personally, has come to know her through Cannon Hall Farm, or simply wants to send their love and support to a family going through an incredibly difficult time.
“The money raised will be there for Ruth and her family to use in whatever way helps them most in the months ahead. Our hope is simply that it can ease some of the pressures they are facing and help give them the freedom to focus on what matters most: being together, spending precious time as a family and making memories.”
