King Charles Shares Fresh Palace Update as Queen Margrethe Remains in Hospital
King Charles and Queen Camilla have appeared in a fresh Palace update as concern continues for Queen Margrethe II following her hospitalisation in Denmark.
The Royal Family’s official Instagram account shared photographs on Monday from Charles and Camilla’s appearance at the Braemar Gathering in Aberdeenshire, where the couple joined one of Scotland’s best-known traditional events.
The update came shortly after the Danish Royal Family confirmed that Queen Margrethe had been admitted to Rigshospitalet after feeling unwell.
While Buckingham Palace did not link Charles and Camilla’s appearance directly to Margrethe’s health situation, the two royal developments emerged within the same weekend.
Charles and Camilla Attend Braemar Gathering
In its social media update, Buckingham Palace wrote: “Over the weekend, The King and Queen attended the Braemar Gathering at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Aberdeenshire.”
The Palace also highlighted some of the traditional events featured during the gathering.
“Held on the first Saturday of September every year, the Gathering features events including tug-of-war, caber toss, hammer throw, Highland dancing and a parade of pipe bands.”
Charles is patron of the Braemar Royal Highland Society, and the reigning monarch has traditionally attended the annual event since 1848.
The following day, September 6, Charles and Camilla were also seen arriving by car at Crathie Kirk, the small parish church close to Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
Their appearances offered a fresh glimpse of the King and Queen as they continued their schedule in Scotland.
Queen Margrethe Hospitalised After Feeling Unwell
Meanwhile, the Danish Royal Family announced on Sunday that Queen Margrethe II had been taken to Rigshospitalet after becoming unwell.
Doctors diagnosed the former Danish monarch with mild dehydration and a new blood clot in the hip region.
“Her Majesty Queen Margrethe was admitted to Rigshospitalet on Sunday after feeling unwell,” the Danish Royal Family said in its statement.
“A new blood clot in the hip region and mild dehydration have been diagnosed, both of which are being treated.”
The Palace also offered reassurance about her condition.
“Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and is doing well under the circumstances.”
The statement confirmed that she is expected to remain in hospital for observation and treatment during the coming week.
As a result, Margrethe will be unable to attend the funeral of King Harald in Oslo on Wednesday.
“Queen Margrethe is expected to be hospitalized next week for both observation and treatment,” the statement continued.
“This means that Her Majesty will unfortunately not attend King Harald’s funeral in Oslo on Wednesday.”
The Danish Royal House said further information would be released when there is an update on her condition.
Latest Health Issue Follows Earlier Surgery
Margrethe’s latest hospitalisation comes a little more than three months after she underwent surgery at Rigshospitalet.
The new diagnosis has therefore prompted renewed attention to the 86-year-old royal’s health.
According to the Danish statement, however, she remains in good spirits while receiving treatment for both the blood clot and dehydration.
The timing has placed two senior European royal households in the spotlight for very different reasons.
Charles and Camilla have continued with their public engagements in Scotland, while Denmark’s Royal Family has been forced to adjust its plans following Margrethe’s admission to hospital.
For the British monarch, the latest Palace post focused on tradition and continuity at Braemar.
For Margrethe, attention is now firmly on her recovery, with the Danish Royal House expected to provide another update once there is further news about her treatment and hospital stay.
