Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pushed back against claims that they are planning a television film about Princess Diana, after a report suggested the Duchess of Sussex could take a central role in telling the late Princess’s story.

The speculation began with a Substack post by US journalist Rob Shuter, who claimed Harry was preparing a television project to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s death next year.

According to the report, Meghan was initially expected to support the project behind the scenes before allegedly becoming a much more prominent figure in the production.

A production source quoted by Shuter claimed Meghan’s role “won’t be a cameo” and suggested she could become “the voice viewers hear.”

However, a representative for Harry and Meghan has now rejected the claims altogether, saying there is “no truth to the story.”

That denial casts serious doubt over the more dramatic claims surrounding the alleged project, including reports about Meghan’s role and Prince William’s supposed reaction.

Report Claimed Meghan Would Take Central Role

Shuter’s account claimed Harry wanted to create a film about Diana and involve friends and family who knew her personally.

The report also suggested Meghan had moved from being a “behind-the-scenes supporter” to becoming a “central figure in the film.”

One unnamed insider was quoted as saying: “Harry may be the son,” but Meghan would be “the voice viewers hear.”

The same report claimed the Sussexes saw “powerful parallels” between Diana’s difficult relationship with the Palace and press and their own experiences.

None of those assertions have been confirmed by Harry or Meghan.

The claims nevertheless quickly attracted attention because next year marks 30 years since Diana’s death.

Harry has spoken publicly many times about the influence his mother continues to have on his life, making the idea of a tribute project immediately plausible enough to generate widespread speculation.

William Was Reportedly ‘Furious’

The original report also claimed Prince William would be deeply uncomfortable with Meghan taking such a prominent role.

An unnamed source told Shuter: “William believes Diana’s legacy belongs to him. Harry making his own film is one thing. Meghan becoming the narrator of their mother’s story is something else entirely.”

The source added that such a move would be “extremely difficult for William.”

There has been no statement from William or Kensington Palace confirming that reaction.

Given the Sussexes’ denial of the underlying film story, the claims about William’s supposed anger should also be treated cautiously.

For now, there is no confirmed production, no announced broadcaster and no verified role for Meghan.

Sussexes Back in Britain

The speculation emerged only weeks after Harry and Meghan returned to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The family is reportedly now based near the Cotswolds while the children attend school, although details of their living arrangements have remained largely private.

Other reports have claimed the Sussexes were disappointed by the lack of an immediate welcome from King Charles after their arrival.

One source told GB News that Meghan had not expected “a tea party or anything official,” but allegedly hoped for some sign that Charles was pleased to have his son and grandchildren back in Britain.

The King and Queen Camilla travelled to Scotland for royal engagements shortly after the Sussexes’ return.

Those claims, like the Diana film story, rely on unnamed sources and have not been publicly confirmed by the Royal Family or the Sussexes.
