HEARTBREAKING: John Torode shares emotional update following wife Lisa Faulkner’s breast c@ncer diagnosis
John Torode has opened up about the profound impact his wife Lisa Faulkner’s breast cancer diagnosis has had on their lives, admitting the experience “changed absolutely everything”.
The former MasterChef presenter said health and time with Lisa have become his overriding priorities following her diagnosis earlier this year.
Lisa revealed in July that cancer had been detected during a routine mammogram before she underwent major surgery.
Speaking to The Times, John reflected on the difficult period while also discussing other major changes in his life, including his departure from MasterChef in 2025.
“When doors close, something else opens up,” he said.
“It takes time, grieving takes time, but it has got to be about your positive attitude.”
But John made clear that professional setbacks now feel far less significant compared with what he and Lisa have experienced together.
“The most important thing to me is health and being with my wife, Lisa, and if I have that, everything else pales into insignificance,” he said.
“Lisa’s breast cancer diagnosis this year changed absolutely everything.”

Lisa Says Diagnosis Changed Her Priorities
Lisa has also spoken candidly about how receiving the diagnosis altered the way she viewed everyday life.
“It changes everything,” she said.
“It feels like you are suddenly in a film of your life. Your life is stark.”
For Lisa, concerns that once appeared important quickly became secondary after she learned she had cancer.
“You suddenly realise what is important and the rest goes out of the window,” she explained.
The disease was discovered following a routine mammogram.
After the initial diagnosis, Lisa said she was told there was a possibility she could lose her breast.
She subsequently sought a second opinion and met a female surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.
Lisa later underwent surgery, which successfully removed the cancer with clear margins while allowing her breast and nipple to be preserved.
Reflecting on the treatment she received, Lisa praised the NHS for the care provided throughout an extremely difficult period.
“The NHS has been amazing,” she said.
She added: “I’m very, very grateful to be here and well.”
Diagnosis Revived Painful Memories
Lisa’s illness also forced her to confront deeply painful memories connected to the death of her mother from cancer.
She admitted that, for years, even hearing the word cancer had been difficult for her.
Because of what she had experienced with her mother, Lisa said she had previously tended to shut down whenever the subject arose.
Her own diagnosis meant she could no longer distance herself from those fears.
Instead, she had to process the reality that the disease was now affecting her personally.

For both Lisa and John, the experience appears to have brought a new perspective to everything else happening in their lives.
John’s comments about his career reflected that shift.
While leaving MasterChef represented a major professional change after years associated with the programme, he said losing one role no longer felt like the most important issue.
His focus instead remained on Lisa’s health and the time they could spend together.
The couple have frequently worked alongside one another professionally, but John’s latest remarks offered a more personal insight into how they have navigated one of the hardest periods of their relationship.
Lisa, meanwhile, has spoken with gratitude about her treatment and recovery while acknowledging the emotional impact of the diagnosis.
Her words made clear that the experience reshaped her sense of what mattered most.
For John, the conclusion was equally simple.
After a year filled with professional and personal upheaval, he said being healthy and being with Lisa now outweigh everything else.
And following the fear surrounding her diagnosis and surgery, the couple appear determined to place those priorities at the centre of whatever comes next.
